Funny Foto Friday: My eyes are up HERE

Over the past 2 months, my day job has taken me back on the road.  It has been a bit of a tough transition, but having done it full time for 7 or so years before, I’m finally starting to get back into a good groove.  I can now pack in 10 min on Sunday night and am starting to remember my tips and tricks for not gaining 30 pounds while eating out 3 meals a day.  (More on that soon, I suppose).

Room service: the only time eating in bed alone isn't depressing

However, I'll admit that working out has been a bit of a struggle. I'm working ~12 hour days so squeezing in a workout and 5 or 6 hours of sleep seems to be more of a challenge than I would like.  BUT, I'm still working out 3 or so days mid week and both days on the weekend which I hope is enough to keep my fitness where it is or backsliding only a little bit.

Post run wine.

Ok look.... there are a few things I do that I am not proud of.... probably the best example of this is the fact that race car crashes, horrible hits in football, and Kate Upton all solicit longer stares that I would like. But hey, what is better than embracing faults and making fun of them, right?  So, in the spirit of full mirrored sunglasses at the beach, here is today's funny foto friday.  Enjoy!

Oh hipsters, you so silly

Hahahahah, oh stereotypes... You're always good for a laugh

BONUS!  Every time I see this is it makes me laugh

Finally, my son and I have started a weekly Saturday morning tradition to go for a run in the morning and stopping to feed the duckies half way through (right at 4 miles). He loves it and looks forward to it all Friday night.  But, as I got to thinking about it, who wouldn’t love a jogging stroller ride with a nice 8-9mph breeze complete with an iPad, snacks, and a juice box?!?!  Jeeze – anyone want to take me for a jogging stroller run!?  Happy Friday!

Autumn is near!! Sort of...

A few things that have been rattling around my head as the leaves start to turn, school is back in session, and Octoberfest beer overflows.

Autumn is one of my favorite seasons.  The only thing is that in Phoenix it comes 2-3 months later than in other parts of the country. So, while other people are posting about temps in the 50s and bundling up around a bon fire, today’s high is supposed to be 106. Not that I am complaining.  Soon enough it’ll be December and I’ll still be running without a shirt on. But, until then I’ll continue to work on my pasty white base tan, make plans for a weekend trip in the mountains, and secretly hope for an early snow to dump on the rest of the country. Break out the ice melt, suckers!

Ho ho ho, Merry Chris..... wait, what?
Every year the retail industry does something that surprises me. Sometimes it is creating a holiday that I didn’t know existed to sell $4 greeting cards (Happy flag day!  Wait, huh? What about independence day?) Others, it is Amazon’s “people who also looked at this also bought...”  But lately the thing that surprises me most about retail is selling stuff for holidays earlier and earlier.  Specifically, Target (think, walmart but with less cut off jean shorts) recently ran a Christmas commercial.  As in... santa, snow, and jingle bells. K-Mart (think walmart with MORE cut off jean shorts) is advertising it’s layaway program.  To think I still need to decide what my Halloween costume is going to be.  Maybe I’ll just go as an elf?

Pumpkin spice latte
I like to say that I’ll try ANYTHING once. (Yes, even that... perv.) So since I’ve been spending so much time in airports lately, I decided to take the plunge and order up my first ever pumpkin spiced latte.  I normally don’t go for the flavored drinks, but I wanted to get into the autumn sprit in some form or fashion so I decided “why not?”.  WRONG.  It was like someone hallowed out a pumpkin, filled it with high fructose corn syrup, and tossed in some nutmeg. Instead of a doubleshot of espresso afterwards I needed a shot of insulin.  I didn’t hate the flavor, but I think I might have had diarrhea for3 days afterwards.  Maybe I’ll just call it a cleanse?

Finally, one thing I do love about fall is all of the races.  October is the busiest month for marathons and September follows shortly behind. Miles put in during the hot summer months finally start to pay dividends and travel across the country to sweat it out with thousands of your fellow runner friends is common place. Nothing makes me happier than seeing people truly excited after running a new distance, a faster time, or a meetup with friends. Certainly that is worth putting up with the pumpkin spice and the santa commercials in September. Maybe.
