Not my quickest 5k ever at 32:43 but considering how I felt when I got up this morning (like NOT getting up) I'll take it!

Headed out super early this morning (5am EST) to do the "Sweat Your Thorns Off 5K" as part of my 7+ miler this morning. Temps were good..but humidity was through the ROOF!

I have been running only since April 2012 and I am super proud that I ran the whole 5K portion...I know that is small potatoes (mmmm, potatoes) for most runners - but a HUGE deal for me! Here is a link to my Twitter post: https://twitter.com/mlcwildlifepr/status/231724634201026560/photo/1

5k - 21.32. Time - 6am. Temp - 74°

So I stepped outside into a very humid 74° morning. Since I couldn't convince the wiffle to get out of bed to be my official starter I winged it. I yelled Ready, Set.... then I false started. Silly Me. I got it right the second time though. I was on my way. Fortunately, other than the humidity, it was a nice morning. I didn't get attacked by a bear, or run over by a moose, or stung by wild African bees. Of course.... last time checked southern Indiana didn't have any of those. Since my 5k was part of my 14mile long run it was a one way race. I sucked it up the last mile and up the "Big" hill and managed to come in first out of Me, Myself, and I. After I congratulated everyone and accepted my winning prize... a nice drink of water.... I continued on the rest of my 14 miles. I had a pretty laid back rest of my run. Finished 14 miles in 1:40:58. Good run followed by a lovely ice bath and a nice cup of coffee.

Since I am training for a half marathon, and today is my long run day, and I had to do 6 miles, I did a 10k. :) I marked the time at the 5K point, and it was 37:25. Not my best, not my worst, and it's ok because I still had 3.1 miles to go and was pacing myself to finish. Not that I am fast beyond the first mile... ;) I did the 10k in 1:18:10.

Emailing pics shortly...

RapidEye said...

Did mine in 32:04 - far off from my PR of 22:22.

I lead a group of local club members around the 5K course that we'll do in a couple of weeks to raise money for our local animal shelter. I tried to push the pace, but a couple of stragglers wouldn't come along. I did crank up the speed to around 7:00 for the last half mile when I could leave the club behind (finish line was obvious from there).

Here in central NC, its hot and sticky so you sweat your thorns off just lacing up your Brooks!

pennpalrunner said...

Being just a few months out of a high school track season, I can run a pretty mean 5k (in my defense), but today I went with two friends on their 12-mile marathon training run.

Time: 35:07

They wanted to start at 6am (my thoughts: oh-my-god-that's-early) but it was nice because it actually wasn't hot at that time. And believe me, I was surprised. Summer in Georgia: not runner-friendly. Or even standing-outside-friendly.

The course was awesome. I'm in Augusta, GA, which is right on the GA-SC border. So we started in North Augusta (on the SC side of the river), crossed over the Savannah River to the GA side, ran down the riverwalk, back into SC, through a fancy neighborhood right on the water, and then finished the rest on a paved, shaded bike path through the woods.

I ran a local 5k this morning and counted it as my Sweat Your Thorns Off 5k. I have major guilt calling it that since it was a balmy 48 degrees at the start and I was shivering waiting for the gun, but when I am freezing my thorns off in the winter, I will be doing so WAY more than you, so I guess it's a trade off. :)

I won! First female and third runner overall. Official time was 20:18, however the course was measured by someone's truck and all of the runners were complaining it was long (most of us had 3.22 miles). My average pace was 6:19 which would have given me that elusive sub 20 5k, but oh well! I am happy with the PR, especially since I had a grueling 18 miler yesterday with 8 miles at goal marathon pace and 6 miles faster than goal marathon pace.

No pics, but here is video of my coming across the finish line!

So I finished my 5k in 39:37. Room for improvement, but in my defense it was on a treadmill and almost 4 minutes faster than 1 month ago today;). Still not sure what my thorns are, but I had sweat in places I didn't know I could sweat so mission accomplished - I sweat my thorns off!

27:05 for our normal geezer run, which is eggzactly 5k around west lake Zorinsky where we run. Called geezer run because myself and another old guy organize it and we run it weekly with old young, mom's and strollers all get to run. this time I ran it for a race time. 89 degrees and equal humidity this a.m. so it was definately a SYTO5K

Combined with yesterday's parkrun. Middle of winter here, although it was pretty warm (about 5 degrees), but I still managed to SYTO. Finished in 26.25. Thanks for motivating me for the run!

I'm a beginner "runner" and am in the process of losing 107# (40# down so far! Yay!). I completed the 5k this morning and I did it outdoors (most of my "running"/walking is done on the treadmill in the A/C so the outdoors was a challenge and then add in the dreadful heat). I waited way too late to get started this morning, 9:30am, and by the time I was 1 mile in the heat had become excruciating. I continued to slow down more and more and ended up walking and dredging along feeling like complete crud. But ... I finished it and I survived! ha 3.12 miles in 51 minutes. Slow but DONE and that's a win for me!

Ran it as part of my scheduled 7 miles in 30:19. Hot and humid, but humorous. I wore the bib and thought it would be fun to look confused and look around for signs when passing other runners. I even asked one person if they knew where the next turn was! Definitely one of my most entertaining runs!

SYTO5K time = 43:10!

MargaretB said...

I ran yesterday outside for the first time in a week. Crazy heat has kept me inside on the treadmill. My 5K time was 28:35. Not my fastest time but could have been worse. It was already 74 degrees when I ran by the A & W near my finish line!

Karen Anthony said...

Had a real bad run on Wednesday so I was really dreading today. Wednesday I ran at the wrong time...105 degrees in Texas and I didn't have my cold water, nor my gu. Today, I got it all together and finished in 43:14. A little slower than I hoped but I'll take it considering ive got a respitory infection.

Robyn said...

Oops, posted on the bib thread instead.

3.2-ish miles in 40 min on a business trip to New York City (early Saturday AM)! Not the most scenic run ever (it was in Washington Heights), and surprisingly hot and muggy at 6:30 am, but got 'er done. I'm recovering from a bad hamstring event, so this was my longest run since April. Sigh. It's good to be back running.

Holy crapcakes! It was 80 degrees by the time I was able to get out the door (two little kids, you know how I roll!) It got up to 102. That is just unheard of where I live. If I ran in that heat I would have died and never been able to get back to report! Now THAT would have been a tradgedy! Anyway - I ran 3.1 on the treadmill. It took me 36 minutes and 9 seconds - that is a TOTAL PR for me!

Did my 5K in 34:03 as part of a slightly longer run. My time probably would have been a little faster if I hadn't stopped to pet a few neighborhood dogs along the way...oops! At least I was able to knock out the run before the heat index topped 100. :)

Hey!

I'm submitting my report, but since I only have a blogger account that I don't really use - who knows if this will count.

My SYTO5k was the Shakopee, MN Derby Days 5k on Saturday morning. I've run other 5k's before - but none on a horse racing track like this one!

That's right...we started out on the turf course and did nearly a mile loop (not nearly as fast as the horses run!). Then it was on a trail for a while before coming back to the track to finish at the finish line!

I ended up finishing 20 seconds out of third place for my age group with a time of 22:13. That's my best 5k in a race ever!

I should of paid attention to the race and I could have placed and got a medal.

Still it was a success for me - but better than for me, it was my brother-in-law's first running race ever. I helped him train for a couple months, and he blew his goal out of the water with a time around 31 minutes!

My 5K was the Dirty Girl Mud Run and since it was a muddy, slippery up & downhill course I finished in about 1 hour & 10 minutes cause I was too afraid of slipping & falling if I went any faster:-) There were lost of muddy obstacles that we also had to wait in line for to complete which slowed things up some but I went & concured none the less! I have yet to get my blog done on it all but it was a fun one for sure and it was cool here in Minnesota but I did manage to sweat a few thorns off regardless:-)

I sweated my thorns off on Sunday morning with my puppy Sadie! This was one of her first runs with me and she did great. We did a combo of run/walk as to not overwhelm her. Didn't take my phone so I'm not sure of our exact time (I don't have a fancy pants running watch so I usually use Nike+ GPS app on my phone to track my mileage). If I had to guess, I think we conquered it in 40-45 minutes. I'm hoping this is the start of her being my running budy! And I tagged you in our post-run pic on instagram.

Totally forgot to check back in for my "virtual 5K!" I thought I would run, but was begged to substitute a spin class Saturday morning so I did that instead, which is great because it wound up being humid and stormy in HotLanta. What's great about teaching spin is I'M not the one cursing :)

Ok - so I forgot the bib but I did run 5 humidty/sweat soaked miles and literally sweated my thorns off (whatever the hell that means…) avg. pace was an unimpressive 11:11 min. mile. Was too busy trying not to get heat stroke to pick up the pace.

I'm on vacation so no race report but I did run the 5K as part of my other race that weekend--the Beach to Beacon 10K, which I did write a race report for. Feel free to steal photos from that report if you want. My 10K time was 56:52 so I guess divide that by 2 to get my 5K time. I was hotter than the hinges of hell and I sure did sweat my thorns (and other body parts) off. Thanks for hosting!

I hope I'm not too late. I ran my 5K Sunday and definitely Sweated my Thorns off. Or at least I checked and I don't have any Thorns so I can only assume I sweated them off. I did an awesome trail run that included leaping over rocks and streams and unleashed dogs in many single bounds.

My 5K time of 40:00 is dreadful slow but that's because it was 85 (cool for Texas) and I'm in a recovery week and had to keep it in zone 1. Still, did it.

I ran the 5k as part of my long run (14 miles) on Saturday. I finished the 5k in 27:30. It was not that bad out since I started at 3:30 am. I ran around Val Vista and did loops.

I ran on Saturday as part of a long run. Did 10k by myself, then a 10k race after that. It was one of the hottest days this summer, but luckily I was on a shaded trail. I guess I'll consider my SYTO5k time to be 26:45, 1/2 of my 10k race time.

Oops...realized my earlier post (above) might be somewhat incomprehensible. I did 3.2 miles in 37:31 (11:43 pace) Here's the actual link where I talk about my run: http://realdeal.tumblr.com/post/28740171319/steamboat-springs-8-30am-3-2-miles-in-37-31

Argh...so I posted the results late and posted in the wrong post. I ran 3.1 as part of a 3.3 mile run...3.1 in 29:56 and 3.3 in 31:48! I hope this counts and you're a week late in getting the results out :)
