Three Things Thurs: Marathon Trials, Hometown Race, & Poop

I think I’ve only jumped on the three things bandwagon (blogger buddy Morgan’s brainchild) a handful of times, but today I felt that I had to crank out some bullets.  Two bullet posts, one week!?  I’m on a roll!

First, don’t forget to check out my interview with elite runner Trisha Miller? She’s running Rock and roll AZ with me (or, maybe like 35 min in front of me) this weekend.  She talks about training, how she’s cut 40 minutes off of her marathon time, poop, fueling, and poop.  Did I mention poop?

Second, I can NOT tell you how excited I am to be running a marathon in the city I live in.  It has been 2 years since I’ve done one at home.  I’ll post about it ad-nauseam in the coming days, but I love how I can look forward to sleeping in my own bed, knowing where I need to go, and being able to sound smart when people are visiting.  “Oh, you want to know where THAT is?  Hmmmm. . . .Let me call my wife, I’ll bet she knows.”

Finally, when I’m not obsessing about whether I could pull off jeggings (Answer: YES!!) about my race this weekend, I’m obsessing about the USA Olympic Marathon Trials on Saturday.  I’m not sure why this 4 year Olympic cycle has hit me like an intervention at Lidsey Lohan’s birthday, but I’m hooked.  You see, while most other countries select their runners over the course of 6 months (Kenyans already have 2 of 3 marathoners selected, same for the British) we Americans do it in one big blow. Top 3 men and women get to go to London. Losers walk home.  It is just like a wild west gold rush!!  Only, with less beards and more teeth.

In the United States, I’ve been told that there is no official live stream.  However, I do know that NBC is going to be broadcasting 2 hours of delayed footage mid afternoon.  Until then, check out these awesome videos of a few of the hopefuls training.  Honestly, they’re just of people running. . . but they look like they’re jogging. . . . except their running 5:00/mile.

I love that they are still faster than me, even in slo mo. When they were passing other runners out on the path, that was hysterical too.

At least Trisha is 35 minutes in front you...she'll probably be 35hours ahead of me! BTW, I was actually thinking of getting a pair of jegging or legging after work tonite.

Great videos. They can all run 2 miles before I've even finished 1, but it's definitely motivating! Good luck on Sunday...I'll be doing the half!

Love the videos, especially the Team USA Minnesota one since a lot of the footage is along my running routes although I don't cover it nearly as fast as these guys.

I had to show it to my daughters & they thought I was a total geek when I got excited and said "ooooh, I know that garbage can! I ran by that today! Look! That bench is where I start my intervals!!".

I was embarrassed, though, to see Josh & realize he's fit me for shoes & I had no clue who he was. *shame*.

Love the videos! I wish I was half as fast as them. The MN made me miss home though. I'm excited to explore those routes when I move back :)
