Sweat Your Thorns Off 5K VIRTUAL RACE!!

I get it, I really do.  Race season is winding down. The temperatures are getting hot enough that your naughty bits are starting to stick together.  Race directors realize this and the pool of available races significantly reduces during the summer.  Bor-ing.

So, what is a runner to do?  Waste away the summer on the couch watching the 40 different singing / dancing / whoring reality shows?   Just like the kids say - "Hells to the no".  Run the 2nd annual Sweat Your Thorns Off 5K Virtual Race!  June 25th 2011!

I like my logos like I like my end of world predictions to flop - BIG

Last summer, I hosted a real-live race get together.  At that time we were 4 Phoenix Runners strong, getting together to Sweat Our Thorns Off while running 3.1 miles. It was hot, and I sweated more than a hooker in church, but it was a blast.  Race bibs (that I sweated all the way through), finishers medals, and free swag bags were all part of the adventure.

One hot, sweaty, mess

Not to be outdone by the summer heat, this winter, I decided to kick it up a notch.  Not only did we get together in Phoenix and Freeze Our Thorns Off, but I opened the race up to the internet!  135 runners from around the globe participated surpassing all of my wildest dreams.  Except for the one where the cheerleader bus breaks down outside my house.

Burrrrrr.  Don't we all look freezing?

So, not to rest on my laurels, I figured that I HAD to continue with the tradition.  What Richard Simons is to sweating to the oldies, the SYTO 5K Virtual Race is to sweating out what bugs the crap out of you.  While not everyone lives in the desert or has cactus in their front yard, everyone has something that they'd like to sweat out - never to be heard of again....sort of like Richard Simmons.  Think of it as your own personal Bikram yoga session.  The only difference is that instead of 90 minutes, it will be only half of that and  instead of half naked women trying to turn themselves into a pretzel, it'll be you running all sweaty and gross. (Unless you run in a Bikram Yoga outfit)

---------------------------------------------------------------

Who: You and 100s of your closest Boring Runner readers (along with 20+ Phoenix area runners on a measured 5K course)
What: 3.1 miles (That can be ran as part of a longer run)
When: Saturday June 25th, 2011 (Loads of time for you to prepare and me to figure out prizes)
Where: Wherever the crap you want!  Outside, treadmill, in front of the WII, nude in the shower, wherever!
Why: Because basically everyone is doing it

Prizes:
Oh yes, there will be prizes.  At a minimum, there will be (Self Funded) prizes, but I have a few tricks up my sleeve for some other goodies as well.  No strings here (like shipping to the USA only).  I'll ship the goods to Siberia if you want me to.

How to Enter:
Just leave a comment on this post saying that you are in!  As long as you are a follower of my blog you're entered for the prizes as well (best to tell me that you follow in the comment).  Easy peasy.  Then, once the 25th rolls around, hop, skip, and naked shower dance your way cross the 5K finish line, write up a quick report, and email me the link - theboringrunner (at) gmail.com.

I'll post a link to your race report (not required to be entered into the contest) and fame and fortune will most certainly come your way.

I'll be in Coeur d'Alene, volunteering at an Ironman. I promise to run 5k at some stage that day (possibly naked.) I'll have to scope out the scene.

bobbi said...

All right - I'm in. Although it'll be more of a marathon recovery run than a race, but 5k is 5k :) And I'm all about prizes...

I'm in! I'm "off" of real running until July when I start my marathon program, but a 5k shouldn't hurt too much.

I hope you're not still going to call it "whoring" when I apply to The Bachelor so I can meet/fall in love with/totally show up Mr. "Look at me I ran 16 Marathons" Ames.

I'm running what's supposed to be a ridiculously hilly 10K in Baltimore that day, but if I can double-count 3.1 of those miles, I'm in.

I'm going try and talk my wife into running it with me. It would be her very first 5K!

Yes, I'm a follower.

The Banter said...

Does it count if: 1) I was already going to run that day anyway 2) I may go further than 3.1 and 3) Given the cool weather this year I may not sweat that much. If these are acceptable, I'm in.

I'm in for the real deal and I promise not to fall at this race like I did FYTO. We'll need a post watermelon!

I'm in, and of course I'm a follower. And I'll most certainly be sweating my thorns off in the St. Louis heat and humidity (it's a wet heat).

I'm thinking of doing a 10K that day so I'm in and I'm a follower. Yuck to the heat and humidity though!

A) I laughed when I read your first sentence. Where I live, summer is the ONLY season for racing!

B) June 25th is my wedding day! No race for me. Good luck!

Today we hit 96 with 76% humidity here in Raleigh, so my participation is hinged upon my surviving until the 18th. If I haven't melted or burst into flame, I'm in like Flint! I follow.

Is there a prize for who sweats the most? (I have a wetsuit I really want to try out for this, but if I kill myself I'd really like to get a Runner's ID or headband out of it - ya know for my heirs and everything)

I'll be dancing and jiving at a Blue Grass/Folk music festival, but I'll try to get a 5K in somewhere.

I guess I am in. HOWEVER - you need to add to the rules:

It should at least have to be timed seperately if part of another run.

You must wander around for 15 minutes before starting the 5K.

Ideally, you will drive around for thirty minutes prior to simulate looking for a parking spot.
