As if I need another hobby

Even congressmen like photography!
First, I was able to get out and get in 5 miles (7:50 pace) with no stiffness or soreness (That's what she said) this morning. I think that the extra day of rest after my race this weekend did a body good and put me on the right track towards recovery. I'll probably rest again tomorrow and then run 12 or so this weekend.  After that?  Full blown marathon training!!

----------------------------------------

Some people have said that running (or certainly triathlete'ing) is like having a part time job.  You have to make time for the actual running, but then there is the getting dressed (usually), stretching, pooping before the run, stretching after the run, foam rolling, and then pooping again after the run.  It is enough to make a guy weigh 5 pounds less tired just thinking about it!  I'd say that I put in a pretty solid 8 to 10 hours of "running related activities" each week.

But, even though I'm busy with a running hobby/lifestyle, every so often I can't help but have random thoughts of hobbies I'd like to start OTHER than running.  They vary by what color my mood ring is, but generally they bounce between taking showers more than once a week brewing my own home made beer and spending time with my family getting into photography.

A week or so back, my bother in law came by with his wicked-awesome new SLR digital camera. I think that it must have fueled my desired to get into it even more.  I dream of adult photoshoots taking pictures of flowers and my happy family. His camera looked like one of those that you see on the side of football games or what I imagine are at "magazine" photoshoots:

Not my bother.....or anyone he knows.....but I had to make up for that dude in the post below

He took a bunch of random pictures - all of which turned out great (even of me!!).  Here are a few examples:

My wife doing dishes.  Looks like it could be in the JC Pennies catalog

My son eating with his grandpa.  Hallmark card quality

Well, maybe the camera didn't make EVERYONE look good

Usually, it only takes a few late nights of getting caught up with everything to snap me out of my delusion and snap me back to reality.  But, just like I say to people when they start out running and don't think they have time: I suppose if I really wanted to do it all, I would MAKE time.  So, I must not want it bad enough - yet.  Anyone else have hobbies that you'd like to take up if you had the time?  Better yet, help me find some time and I'll let you drink my home made beer!

My hobby is my work. I dabble in that so I get paid enough to purchase all my running stuff. LOL.

I'm an artist. But the art just sits inside my head because I have no time to slap it on a canvas.

Sleep. I'd like to make that a hobby as of late. Actually I would love to do event planning (not weddings or things that people are too emotional about but for corporations--retreats and such). I will likely try to get into that more once Sadie starts school in a few years--- after I'm done sleeping for a week.
BTW thanks for the nasty photo of the Congressman....Yuck, who does that?

Nope. ;)

Travel. Write a book. I like Adrienne's sleep idea, too, though.

Once we had our boys, I felt a real need to develop my photography skills. But you're right; it does need time (and money!).
Now if I could just get someone to start taking pictures of me...

I have a few hobbies i make time for: snowboarding, buying running/workout clothes, looking up races to do, reading blogs about triathletes/runners... :)

The only way I find more time is by multi-tasking. I'm a fan of the baby jogger - outdoor time for the little one and exercise time for me. Plus, if he's home, my husband gets to relax at the same time, so I score bonus points =)

I'm learning to play the piano, but I also want to have a baby soon so I think that will become my one and only hobby for awhile.

Yep...photography and I look to get back to making my own beer this summer. Wife can't stand the smell of it in the house boiling on the stove....smells better than old sweat socks though!

Your wife can become a world famous catalog model, enabling you to retire and pursue your delusions, I mean hobbies!

running/triathloning=second full time job. Screw part time.

I would write more if I had the time and put more energy into the blog. I also have a DSLR and have yet to learn how to use it!

You don't really need any sleep. There are an extra few hours!

Beautiful photos of the fam.
Hobbies...hmmm, I would like to learn to make pasta and experiment more with pastries. Food-related hobbies. Otherwise, cage-fighting? HA!

My brother is a professional photographer, and I steal his camera whenever I can. The difference is AMAZING. I have taken drunk photos with his camera that look a billion times better than any sober camera picture. I wish everyone could see me only through his camera lens. I would have gotten a lot more tale back in the day.

My main non-running hobby is reading crappy murder mystery novels. My brain thanks me.

I know what you mean! By the time I run, shower, and make dinner in the evenings there is no time. The weekends are crammed full, too. I guess we all have priorities.

Since I saw it twice I assume "bother" in law is the correct nomenclature??

I would love to enjoy growing a garden, however, I tend to kill nearly all of Kingdom plantae which I encounter... I do better with animals.

Great photos.
I'd like to get back into sausage making.
Non-hobby, have time to keep the house clean.

I notice there aren't any photos after the one of you. Did you break the camera? LOL! Great photos of the family.

I graduated Astrophysics from University and was an avid astronomer. I particularly liked to try to image planets and track asteroids. But that was many moons ago (actually about 240 moons ago). I wouldn't mind getting back into that.

Then when I was young I had a custom furniture making business, that was super fun (and a lot of hard work). I'd really like to get back into making furniture as a hobby. Things like cutting boards, tomato stakes, fence posts. (actually stuff that you could buy cheaper ... never mind).
