#1 Reason you should hate me

I miss snow. Now, I know that 90% of you (CA, FL, and AZ being the exception) are in the middle of snowpocalypse and snow is the LAST thing that you could care about…..but I really do. I miss the way that everything is so silent after a large snow. I miss the crunch of snow under my feet and rolling around in it mostly naked after soaking in a hot tub. (Doesn’t everyone do that?)

To the right is about as bundled up as I get during the winter in Phoenix. (Taken today after my 6 mile marathon pace run @ 7:13 pace. Chest sweat stain of approval - score.) Wearing my Brooks hat, thicker Under Armor compression shirt, and my Shaq shorts. Burr.

Reason to feel sorry for me: Any one of my runs after May, morning noon or night, will be no cooler than 75 degrees.

Not me though, right?
I’m behind on blogs. Work, family, life, running, international politics, pooping, blah blah blah. Same things everyone else is going through.

Reason to feel sorry for me: Yeah, really no reason here – I’m going to look to get caught up tonight!

Stay warm out there!  If your electricity goes out, burn books for warmth.  No one needs those things - just buy an iPad!

Well, that wasn't my number one reason to hate you, but it's nice to know there are other reasons to hate you!

Adam I don't know what your talking about it's freezing here right now! They even cancelled the kids soccer practice. Thank goodness. Plus I could never hate you. Missing snow is normal. Missing cold is not, if you ever post about missing cold than we will have a problem.

Yes, that's a good reason. I am really, really envious of you warm-weather people.

You are a man of fine taste: snow rocks! Give me your address. I'll send you a ton or 10.

I love being inside when there's snow outside. but being IN snow? Eff that. Eff that hard, man. Snow is cold, and wet, and it gets in places where no snow should be, and it never goes away.

Reason #423 why I live in Southern California.

Jess @ Blonde Ponytail said...

Good reason--it worked! :) Even though we are snow-less right now, I envy warmer temps!!

It's practically freezing in SoCal today. Mid 60's for the high. Brr.

Hmmmm. I'm in the middle of snowpocolypse, but I'd still take the snow. For the record, I prefer running in the 50s. 75 is too warm for my taste...guess it's good that I'm a midwestern girl, huh?

Lisa said...

me, not such a fan of snow.

Kathy said...

I think 75C is around mid 20s normal temp, right? (as an aside, when will the US join the rest of the metric world?)

Those are our winter temps. Coldest summer temps will be maybe 29C. Oh, and humid too. Rarely dips below 75% here (except in the winter)

Now go bundle up with that baby furnace! :)

I like snow too, at times, but I don't need 20 inches at a time. I spent 3 hours shoveling my driveway this morning, so at the moment..not a huge fan

Screw snow.

Love the snow hate the COLD!!! Guess I can't have everything. I think my hot cocoa is calling me.

I was SO excited it was in the teens today for the first time this winter. I got to bust out some cold weather gear and sported the same Brooks hat :)

Kirstie said...

Wow! Yep, it's official, I dislike you now! LOL. I can't believe that's your winter gear! I headed out today amidst Snowmageddon for a 5 miler. Two layers of pants, a long sleeved shirt, jacket, balaclava, gloves, smart wool socks, and ball cap to keep snow out of my eyes. Even with all the snow and inches of ice on the ground, we Northeast Ohio runners can't be kept down due to some silly little storm. I can ship ya some of my snow if you like??!!

I live for a good sweat, so no sympathy whatsoever there .

I'm not trying too hard on the drink less goal. 2 days into Feb and I've had: wine last night, sangria tonight :D (This is apparently not one of those goals a drunken monkey can achieve ;)

Yeah, I would LOVE to have your weather right now. For this snowpocolypse, we just got freezing nasty rain and all the street corners are flooded, which doesn't make walking in NYC very easy. I really can't wait for Spring this year! Enjoy your runs!!

Our snowpacalypse was snowverrated. Lots of sleet, little snow, but it sure is pretty. Thank goodness for my hatred of the treadmill, bc it's forced me to suck it up and get outside in a foot of snow (couple weeks ago) and single digit windchills.

I don't hate you, bc you're missing out and have the good grace to know it, but I don't feel sorry for your heat either. This summer we'll get plenty of that, too...and it's not a dry heat! :) My cousin lives in Gilbert and is forever posting about the warm temps and her pool. Sigh.

Hey, if you want snow, let me know; we have lots to share. It sounds like you're a bit overdressed; if you got down to one layer, you might be able to shave a second or two off that 7:13 pace!

Snow for a kid is great. Snow for an adult with no kids and can fart around all day is great. Snow for an adult who has to clear it and keep two toddlers entertained who keep asking if they can go out in stuff 2x their height, not that great. Snowtorious B.I.G. 2011 Kicked Ass.

You are such a wimp! You wore a cap? I will be wearing a cap for the first time tomorrow for my run. I've heard it'll be in the 20's.

I only miss the first 2 days of snow....don't miss the rest of it...slush, dirty snow, ice, scraping windshield, trying to get key in car to get to work. Let me change that. I only miss the first day of snow. :)

Nicole said...

Ahh, I love California. I ran the last two mornings in 60 degree weather, which is perfect for running.

Gracie (Complicated Day) said...

Yeah, I'm with you. I wore warm up pants and a long sleeved T today because it was 30 degrees. Holy moly! But you know what? In July I ran in 104 degrees. Not heat index. It was actually 104 F. And like 92% humidity. So no one can begrudge me my snowless January.

The Green Girl said...

I miss snow, too. When I visit my parent's and they show people snowed in on the news, my parents comment that I would be all happy stuck in that. ::shrugs:: What can I say? Lots of happy children memories in the snow.

GeorgiaSnail said...

I read this quote yesterday and it cracked me up...

"Whoever is praying for snow, PLEASE STOP!"

Zaneta said...

I love the snow, but I'd rather have 90 degree weather ;)

Nitmos said...

Don't romanticize it. Sure, there is the odd occasion where running in a snow fall or after freshly fallen snow is nice. The odd occasion. Normally, it just plain sucks. If I could, I'd send it your way and you can send me the heat so at least I can get some speed work done.

I am so over winter/snow/ice/cold it is not even funny. I cannot say I would ever miss it but I love my country to much to move...

Jess said...

Will there be an expansion on this list at a later point? I'm curious to know why else we should hate you ;)

Just found your blog and wanted to say "hey" and that I am really enjoying your posts! You are definitely not boring... I think you are pretty dang funny.

I am a newer marathoner, running addict, mom of 12 and blogger. If you are interested you can find me over at http://seemomrunfar.blogspot.com/

As far as snow and cold goes, if you miss it, feel free to head on over to the Rocky Mountains and we'll take you for a run Wyoming style. It was -20 this morning and there are feet of snow on the ground from November through May most years. It warmed up to -5 this morning and should be over zero tomorrow so we'll be running outside. You'll probably want long pants. :)

And you are right... I definitely won't envy you come summer time because I am a total wimp about running in the heat. 70's sound awfully nice about now though!

Glad I found your blog!
Erin

The "somebody busier than you" picture is awesome. Great reminder. As for getting behind... I think we all feel you. Life is what happens when you're busy making plans, no?

I love snow at night. I would like to try running in yaktrax and getting some photos like the ones you have from Iowa. We should take a blogger trip to Flag once per winter. I hate that Hayden allows you to go out with other people in public places.

Jen said...

yeah. you suck. I do hate you.

This multiple posting really really really makes you feel like you are following a blog. It's awesome, and it's so efficient!

Remember New Years at Dena's house when we were in the hot tub and then we ran outside real quick and you rolled around in the snow? Then Nick locked the door so we couldn't get back in. That was when the fun was over.

Still miss the snow? :-)

I was going to offer you some of our snow......but it's actually in the 50's and 60's this week and melting away as we speak. I love the snow...but not sad to see it go. :-)
