Run/Bike with Dad & Baby Update

Speed Day:
In my current ad-hoc training plan, Thursday is pants optional speed day.  I alternate between 3x mile repeats and 400x12 repeats.  This morning was mile repeats.  The goal was around 6:10 pace, but I would be happy with anything between 6:00 and 6:15.

My dad is currently visiting the baby (I have no delusions that he even cares that I am here) so we decided to make it a quick bike/run.  I would run and grunt and groan and my dad would make comments like "wow, my hands are cold, can we go any faster?" and "you keep jogging, I'm going to go check that out over there".

My dad ready to try to keep balance at 9mph ready to ride!

The repeats went REALLY well.  They clicked by in 6:10, 6:03 and 6:11.  I felt like I probably had a few seconds left in the tank for each which is exactly what I wanted. Not

Here is a picture of us as we finished.  I dressed perfectly for the 45 degrees with a T-shirt and shorts but I WILL note that I tucked in the shirt (to the shorts) to try to stay a bit warmer.  Fashion faux pas?  Yes.  But, note that after I finished the run I didn't do like most other people who tuck shirts into their shorts: Talk about frankfurters....while mumbling about 'dang kids'.....all the while shuffling along in well worn loafers.

Dad looking fresh as ever, me looking like sweaty death

2011 Schedule:
Thanks to everyone who suggested races for my 2011 schedule.  Quite honestly, I anticipate on doing at least one of those - if not more than one.  Races currently on the short list are the ones in GA, WI, MI, and OK.  I'm going to spend this weekend selling all of my marriage brownie points to plan a few destination marathon trips!

Baby Update:
Things are finally starting to hit a groove with the baby.  My wife and I decided last night to switch off feeding the little guy while the other one slept.  While I am sure this will work out in the future here is how it worked out last night:

Wife: Wake up at 1am, feed the baby, goto sleep 1:25am

Adam: Wake up at 5am, notice that the baby pee'd through this diaper and jammies, change diaper, change jammies, feed baby, while feeding baby smell the "love surprise" that he left in his diaper during the last 10 min, burp baby, change diaper again, get baby dressed only to have him spit up all over his jammies, change jammies for the SECOND time, put baby to bed, goto sleep at 6:10am.  WHEW.

But, I suppose I didn't have to give birth - so I still have more dues to pay.

Mmmmm, tastes like BPA Plastic

What mom and dad get to look at for 22.5 hours a day.  Sleeping.

Seriously, how'd you have such a perfectly cute little baby? I'm sure he's a little less cute when there are various liquids and solids shooting from his body, but still :)

Just you wait, Henry Higgins. In a couple of weeks he won't go back to sleep so easy in the middle of the night and you will want to slit your wrists...

Glad you got some "quality" time with your Dad :)

Eventually you guys will get a good schedule down with the little guy. Sleep and clean/dry clothes are overrated.

Isn't it nice that those 22.5 hours are generally when you are awake, and the other 1.5 hours are when you want to sleep? :)

He is such a cutie! Good thing too. If he wasn't so cute you may mind having to do all that work!

What a great way to do speed work. Forget the treadmill - next time I'm marathon-training, I'm going to have my husband jump on his bike!

You totally threw me into reminiscing mode - my dad used to bike with me on my LRs when we still lived in the same city, haha and my mom would go with me for 1 lake... 2 lakes if I was lucky.

Piggybacking off of the firstt comment - definitely in due time! When I was a kid I would bike along side of my mom during marathon training(s)... some of my favorite memories! And you never know.. you could get a runnerkid out of it! :)
