Freeze Your Thorns Off Virtual 5K - Jan 8th

Cold weather have you flicking frozen nose boogs (or maybe just wiping them on your running partner)?  Several feet of snow collapse your house/football stadium?  Do I have the solution for you!  Move to Arizona Run the 1st annual Freeze Your Thorns Off 5K Virtual Race!  January 8th 2011!

This past August, along with the Phoenix blogger crew, I hosted the First Annual Sweat Your Thorns Off 5K.    I had a blast with the 3 other runners who ran (most fun race so far) but really wish I could have incorporated more nudity shared the experience with all of my readers.  What better to do that than with a virtual race!?

So, what Richard Simons is to sweating to the oldies, the FYTO 5K Virtual Race is to freezing off what bugs the crap out of you.  While not everyone lives in the desert or has cactus in their front yard, everyone has something that they'd like to freeze off - never to be heard of again....sort of like Richard Simmons.

Who: You and 10s of your closest Boring Runner readers (along with 11+ Phoenix area runners on a measured 5K course)
What: 3.1 miles
When: Saturday January 8th, 2011 (loads of time for you to prepare and me to figure out prizes)
Where: Wherever the crap you want!  Outside, treadmill, in front of the WII, nude in the shower, wherever!
Why: Because basically everyone is doing it

Prizes:
Oh yes, there will be prizes.  At a minimum, there will be (Self Funded) PowerBar prizes, but I have a few tricks up my sleeve for some other goodies as well.  No strings here (like shipping to the USA only).  I'll ship the goods to Siberia if you want me to.

How to Enter:
Just leave a comment on this post saying that you are in!  As long as you are a follower of my blog you're entered for the prizes as well (best to tell me that you follow in the comment).  Easy peasy.  Then, once the 8th rolls around, hop, skip, and naked shower dance your way cross the 5K finish line, write up a quick report, and email me the link - theboringrunner (at) gmail.com.

I am assuming we can combine the 5K as part of another run? I have my last pre-marathon long run that day.

Also, if it is not freezing where I live on that day, do I get disqualified?

I'm in. I will be sporting crutches! No I am not really "in"; I will be recovering. Adam, you asked when? 22nd, so if you are out drinking the night before - 1554 is my choice of brew. ha

Hope all is well with your fatherly learning curve. Interesting things happen almost every hour at this juncture of parenthood.

I can't join even if I want to. I'm running a 90km ultra that day and it is mid summer here.

Hi! I'm Erin said...

Score! I'm already running a 5 mile race that day called the "S-NO-W Fun Run". With the way winter is going so far up north it's guaranteed to be freezing :-)

P.S. I definitely follow your blog. 'Cause Kim told me to.

Michigan weather leads to a relatively short racing season. I envy you warm climate dwellers :(

Count me in.

Adam said...

Jamoosh / Johann - you can totally run it as part of another race.....as long as you are naked.

Also, it doesn't have to be cold either. I know those southern hemisphere folks are in the dead of summer right now!

Chad said...

You have mentioned nudity enough times for the FBI to flag this communique. Hi, wikileaks!!

Anyway, I will be there pushing a baby stroller, and my wife, too. We all follow your blog like it's going out of style. ...because it is.

RunnuRMark said...

Soooooo...what's the possibility of doing it on Sunday, the 9th...as part of a longer run? I mean, if you want to make it a non-traditional race, you can't get too uppity about the rules, right?

Stacie said...

I'm definitely in!!!! Can't wait. I'm sure you know I'm a follower :)

BrianFlash said...

I'm in. But how am I going to remember to run so far off in the future? You are going to have to keep reminding me...

I'm in only if you can convince Spike to move to Arizona!!! Ok he won't but it was worth a try. So question, can this 3.1 be part of a long run??? :)

I'd love to run this. I'll really be running in the FL Keys Ragnar Relay... so I'll be doing 5.4 miles. That's close to a 5k, right? I'll time the first 3.1 of it and call it multitasking.
