Running woes, dinners, and baby updates

Momma said there would be days like these - and to wipe that silly grin off of my face.

  • I posted on twitter this morning that ”Two bad runs might be a coincidence, three bad runs is a pattern. Need to find my mojo.” I ran 7 miles this morning, 5 of which were supposed to be tempo of 6:55. My splits were instead 6:53, 6:59, 7:42 (took a break at the half), 7:23, 7:31 (!!). My legs felt tired and I just had no go-juice. I am pretty sure the summer heat is starting to take its toll. I’m going to rest up, drink plenty of beer water and continue plugging away.
  • Even though my runs haven’t been like I would like, I do know they will get better – I just need to continue to get out there and get them done. Like I am VERY fond of saying: Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while….and so too shall I find my legs.
  • Since I am in a bit of a running slump, I am really glad I needed new shoes.  I picked some up via RunningLaur this weekend.  For a someone like me, there is nothing like Saturday night - new underwear! the smell of new shoes.    They just SMELL fast.  My old shoes (on the right) however, smell like a mixture of zombies and failure.  Out with the old!
  • Last night I met up with Jeff and RunningLaur for a “non running clothes dinner”. I initially thought about showing up in a spandex cycling outfit, but thought better of it. We had sushi in a pretty trendy sushi bar called Ra – which was horribly ironic because it is in the middle of a ghost town/wild west part of Scottsdale, AZ. It was fun to see the crew without sweaty hair and rosy cheeks.

  • Did core this morning. Ouch.
  • Finally, my wife has been hard at work growing a baby while I have been hard at work freaking out about the possibility of another mouth to feed. As evidence of all of her efforts, here is her 23 week picture.  My little man doesn't look a day over 22 weeks.

The slumps are rampant everywhere. Score - new shoes! You are wicked fast already.

Adam, it was certainly nice of you to dress up for your friends. Apparently you didn't get the memo about the dress code for this Soirée.

Do you think something is up with your nutrition and that is affecting your runs? I ask because I have been wondering that about me lately.

Tiffany looks great :)

Are those the Adrenaline 10s? Steven finally ordered some THANK GOD.

P.S. This post made me think of you. Hmm. http://boygirlkitty.blogspot.com/2010/08/smell-my-what.html

I think the reason you are in a slump is because you have been crunching my running numbers, and helping me become a better runner.

I now return to you your mojo.

P.S. did the chocolates melt?

I love baby bumps! Funny that your wife is only 3 weeks behind me.
New shoes will do the trick. They always do for me!

baby bumps rock :)

Maybe quit trying to find your legs so hard and they will just appear. You know like lost keys or something.

Wait, your legs are going to find a nut? Or your legs are blind? Or your legs are looking for nuts? I'll stop.

I also had a craptacular run this morning...so I hear ya. Rest up - with the core work challenge, in addition to your speed work and regular runs, your body mightcouldpossiblymaybebe run down. So REST. :)

Love the pic of you guys in "non-running attire!" I so wish I knew more runners in my area. Or rather, ANY runners in my area...

Haha, your little man is a big man, evidently :). And yep, we are ON for RnR Denver. 9 weeks???? That's a coming up. I was just down at the Denver Police Dept to get a permit for the Skirt Chaser race I'm doing with Beth (Shut up and Run) and got the low-down on the marathon. Well, from a policeman's view, which is "why the hell does anyone want to run 26 miles??" The couse has changed since I ran most of it least year while pacing a friend...be sure to do your hill work!! :)

Little man, eh? That's awesome. Your wife looks great.

I'm in a running slump right now too. It's a combination of many things but, like you, I have new shoes on the agenda. Can't wait!

The slump is normal. Mine lasts for about a week and then suddenly I don't only feel better, but also see progress. 23 weeks already, the time is flying!

Hey now, I'm not sure anything beats the first time slipping on a brand new pair of underwear.

That sushi place sounds FAB. Sushi is hands down one of my favorite foods. Since I think you'd be entertained by this:

1.Sushi
2.Avocados/Guacamole
3.Cheeseburgers
4.Eggs...(Pretty much any kind...but I do love me some eggs over easy ;))
5.Either chicken nuggets or pizza

And voila you have the 5 foods I can't live without. I try to mix healthier things in such as sandwiches. I eat Subway all the f-ing time.I really only eat salads when I'm not training though.
