Nectar of the gods

Hit the exercise bike yesterday morning for 45 minutes @ 13ish miles and finally ran again for the first time 5 days today. 5 miles @ ~7:55 pace. It was 91 degrees at 5:30am...on its way to 113 for the high. If I promise not to complain, I want the option of bragging in January when it is 70.

I'm going to post a full Seattle review this weekend but I had to share one of my first "authentic" Seattle coffee experiences. Of course, I visited the original Starbucks - including the frontal boob show mermaids. Even if the creators didn't think Starbucks would become popular, I always wonder what they were thinking with having boobs on the side of their coffee cups**.

So, being the travel nerd that I am, I hit up the concierge for local coffee shops. He recommended Caffe Ladro. It was a little hole in the wall coffee shop that serves all fair trade, fully organic, shade grown coffee*** which wasn't a big deal to me, but I am sure is a huge deal to others. My wife and I went in and I ordered a Latte - to stay. Normally my coffee looks something like this:

What was delivered was a bowl sized "cup" of silky smooth awesome. Fortunately, the baristo (or whatever the male version of barista is) knew what he was doing and gave me just a touch of foam art. After looking at the picture, I'm trying to decide if it was just a simple circle or if it was a heart and he was trying to send me a message. It WAS pride week after all.

I'm not going to lie, it was basically the best coffee I've had in my life. Just like wine tastes better in a restaurant, I'm sure that coffee tastes better out of a huge cup.

So, if you are in the Seattle area, walk by the first Starbucks to cat call the boobie ladies, but then head over to Caffe Ladro for some real coffee.

**Obviously they were GENIUSES!
***Presumably grown by hippies

I am an occasional cold black coffee with a touch of honey type of gal. I do like Peete's Coffee, do you have one of those in town? They have great tea too.. I have worked at many a' coffee houses..

5:30 a.m. 90 something? is this a joke? Really?

Lol! That is definitely a heart. He had a crush on you, for sure!

I have picked and processed coffee in Guatemala, shade-grown is the best. I'm guessing the Guatemalans don't know their coffee is going to be marketed by boobies : )

Can't wait to hear your full recap!

Many years ago in Seattle, my friend and I walked around downtown asking people if they could point us to a Starbucks - this was when there were two on every corner.

I do not understand why one would design a logo with a pot bellyed mermaid...and attempt to sell food/fattening drinks. So strange.

Agree with Emz: coffee is always better in bigger cups. Why have a small amount of happiness if you could have a large amount of happiness??

I like the bowls of coffee at Le Pain Quotidien for exactly that reason: coffee in a bowl just tastes better.
