CSN $40 gift card giveaway

First, a running update. Because of my little trip to the ER yesterday, I moved my interval / track work to today. I had 3x1600 on the agenda vs the normal 12x400. One of the people who I consulted while building my 5K summer plan, The Sean, suggested mixing up the track days with some 1600s when I was feeling up for it. Nothing to loose but last night's dinner! And, since I didn't see any piles of barf along the edge of the track I figured that I could really push it.

I am SO glad I did. I had one of the best track sessions in recent memory - and set my own personal mental PR in the process. I ran the fastest non-stopped mile I've ever ran: 5:54. I'm not sure if it was the cooler weather ("only" 84) or the great track I ran at (google satellite picture to the left) but everything was clicking. My times were 6:03, 5:54, and 6:04. Not super consistent, but consistent enough for the girls I hang with.

I ran with my new Brooks Green Silence and didn't even wear my clown nose or rainbow colored hair. Me and these shoes are going to become great great friends.

-----------------------------------------------------------

CSN has offered to give my readers a $40 gift card. Straight.up.cash. (Actually, not cash, gift card) Never heard of CSN? They are an online store that sells everything from Platform Beds to Wine Glasses to Exercise Equipment. What else do you need? Drink, sleep it off, then exercise. My own personal triathlon. I practice it every time I go to the Emergency Room.

As I was surfing around CSN's website, I noticed three things:

  • Their website is REALLY well organized. Maybe even a bit better than some of the other major retailer's websites
  • They have a crap ton (which, of course is 2,004 pounds) of fitness stuff for sale....over 100 gym bags
  • I really need to close this CSN window as I have been surfing around looking at kitchen equipment for 30 minutes....literally

Here's what you do to enter! Comment for each entry you do. Like I said last week, I don't have those ANNOYING word verification dealies (seriously, I get like 1 spam comment a month without it, tops), so extra comments take you about 2 seconds. :)
  • Follow my blog +1
  • Retweet this: "Check out www.TheBoringRunner.com for @adamrisu CSN stores $40 gift card GIVEAWAY!!" +1
  • Post this contest on your blog, FB, whatever +1
  • Answer the question: Do you keep any sort of mental "training PRs"?
It is as easy as that!! Get as many entries as you can before Wednesday July 28!

Legalese: CSN Provided this gift card...and I didn't get anything for posting the contest...so why am I posting legalese? Hmmmmm.

Woah! I realize I am at the bottom of the CSN ladder (giving away a $0.00 gift card), but how is it that other bloggers are giving away a $60.00 gift card? Are those in Canadian dollars or something?

yeah, i keep mental training pr's. having a 43 lap watch where i can save runs is great too! that way i can keep track of my long run times on the watch. love it!

RunningLaur said...

Congrats on the super speedy mile - you'd make one heck of a scary clown charging at someone at that speed.
I follow your blog.
PS. want to think about a walk in the park super easy day and pacing me for sub 30 at Higley High's 5k? I think if I'm in the state that's my current training goal. Nevermind that little jump of 5k to 50k in a month... whatever. Sub 30 or bust.

RunningLaur said...

Oh, and mental goal things - I know sport tracks knows what my fastest mile is, and now I'm curious. Whatever it is, I want to beat it.

Yesterday I defeated a big mental goal running on the treadmill, bumped it up to 7.5 (8:00) and didn't fall off. I don't know if I've ever reached 7.0 on a 'mill before.

Do I keep training PRs? Sometimes. I'll have a fantastic workout then the next workout will really suck. For the following few weeks I'll remember and attempt to repeat that workout before my number of mediocre workouts overtake the really outstanding ones and I forget that I had an outstanding one. I'll then have another great one...but by then I'd have forgotten about the last one. It's a vicious cycle.

Mental Training PRs? Not really. I'm at the point where I'm just happy to be getting out there. I'm about to incorporate speed training though so this is definitely something to think about!

I think most people have a mental PR for their training runs. In fact it can be a problem for some as they always try to do the workout better than the time before.

Mental PR? My main mental thing is to run the route/pace/time I plan to run and not mess around with amping it up or quitting early.

I have a 2.14 mile route that I've run multiple times a week for four years. Set a mental PR on it Wednesday so yes.

As always, I'm too lazy to do the giveaway. Let's talk about that track session. Dude, that was impressive. I'm not sure if you were joking about not being consistent, but I'd say it was way close enough to call it consistent.

Yep. I run pretty much every day of the week, and all but 2 of them are simply 5Ks. Usually I just run them easy, but every week I push it hard for one of them, sometimes two, and I time them every time. I know EXACTLY what my training run PR is, both outside, and on the treadmill.
