Blogging intervals: Tempo Runs, Sensitive Nipples, SF Marathon Winner

Running has really been clicking lately. I’m sweating my balls off trying to get through the heat as much as possible. But believe me the 61 degrees of San Jose, CA this week (vs 90 in PHX) was basically like sticking ice cubes down my pants. That is to say, it was “refreshing”.

I’ve ran twice with my Sony Walkman and I have to say that I really like it. The best part? No headphone cords!! I have sensitive nipples. I always run with ‘em covered, but even then my iPod headphones rubbing will cause a bit of arousal pain. Full report after I run with it for a few weeks.

I ran a 5 mile recovery run Monday night and a 7 mile run with 5 tempo at 6:59 today. Did I mention that it was 60 degrees? Did I mention it felt like ice cubes against my jumblies? Feel free to hate me at any time.

Keith Bechtol, a NON-elite athlete, won the 2010 San Francisco Marathon with a time of 2:23:28. Three awesome things: First check his bib number. 30,811!?!? It would seem he either made a typo on his expected finisher time or just signed up on a whim. Second, I can’t tell you how much I love that he is wearing a Team Zombie shirt. Hopefully he got some free brains for the promo. Finally, he is wearing the Brooks Green Silence shoes that I just bought as well. It is like we are twins!! 2:25, here I come!

Has anyone else seen the show Boston Med? It is a reality show following the major hospitals in the Boston area. I’m not sure if it is the fact that my wife is pregnant, but I feel like my hormones are all over the place – I’ve shed a tear in almost every episode. I swear, if I start lactating I’m going to the doctor.

Finally, I’m a consultant (which means that I bounce to and from different companies) and this is my last week here in San Jose. I was thinking about how I form pretty “close” business relationships with…the hotel staff. I know a lot of them by name and I will miss a couple of them more than my clients! But, I’m a realist. I realize that, just like strippers, they are paid to be nice. Cest La Vie!

Of course it pays to know their names - better chance of getting hooked up with a sweet deal or something extra!

Wow! I wonder if the winner decided at the last minute to join the race...maybe he ran the wrong course...

I read that it was his first marathon. He registered about 6 weeks before the race.

What is "team zombie"?

I just put ice cubes down my top - felt great here?!!? ;)

LOVE the Team Zombie shirt as well. This has absolutely nothing to do with running (or your post, for that matter), but I'm obsessed with all things zombie. Movies, books, whatever. In fact, I just had a dream the other night about kicking some zombie ass. They were attacking my house and I had an arsenal of weapons to choose from to bash in their heads. Awesome!

I tried to read your post but couldn't stop staring at the top picture.

That kid is amazing! Ya, you totally have rad fast winning shoes (never doubted that for a sec!)
The race was INSANELY AMAZING AND I WANT TO TAKE IT UP AS A FULL TIME JOB....

A Sony Walkman? Really? I'm not sure your friends at the hotel are really hooking you up.

I gave up my walkman back in the eighties (yup, probably before you were even hatched) after 2 or 3 runs because I hated headphones. I've never thought about trying them again.

But a wireless MP3 player - that I could get into. Wait, I have kids. It's a want, not a need. But, oh, I want, I want....

Go Adam Go! All things point to a fantastic Marathon time.

Ice cubes start forming in my underwear about October-ish. Of course I'm in Canada.

Expected finish time? I guess the good races ask you this. I doubt the guys at my first race will.

I looked up 30811 as a zip code and it's in Gough, Georgia about half way between Atlanta and Charleston. Population: 1000. Maybe it's a publicity stunt to get the tourists floating in so they can replace the stop sign with lights.

Yes, that 'unknown' winner is you...frozen jumblies and all!

Yeah, that SFM winner had an amazing performance! I'm sure it's all because of the shoes. Enjoy your last week in San Jose. And please, no more jumblies talk for now.

My hubby is the same way - though on some of his trips, he flips between four different hotels on one trip alone. It's craziness, isn't it???

And I think that it's hilarious that the guy won the SF race - I read the same thing as Brian, that it was his first mary and he was one of the last entrants. CRAZY, right? (especially considering that his time is faster than my first 13.1 time!)

Yes, you are true twins, team Zombie shirt and Brooks green shoes:) 2:23 or bust! Yea, your running is clicking...good news! At least one of us is feeling the mojo:) Keep it up Adam!

I like the idea of the wireless mp3 player, but the Amazon description makes it look like it won't work with a mac (unless you are one of those people smart enough to figure out how to run windows on a mac = not me). Maybe once Apple gets their iphone antennas working, they will start on a wireless ipod.

See, if you had signed up for SF on a whim, like I suggested last week, you'd probably be running a 2:25 just like your bud, Keith! I'm back in Denverland this evening but this morning I was on the beach in Santa Cruz...wishing I could run. Enjoy the cooler weather in SJ this week!

Team Zombie!

You should send the staff hand written cards in like a week and freak them out.

I kinda thought you were more of a Team Edward guy.

Wow, 60? I haven't seen 60 since...um...I don't remember when. Yes, I'm jealous.

Thanks for plug about Boston Med. I love medical drama shows but somehow missed this. Luckily, it's Thursday so I get to watch tonight!

Pretty funny about team zombie guy winning SFM...must be a typo! Haha!
