Brick workouts and Beard shaving

Well, as promised, here is what I ended up with after a week of only shaving my neck. As you can see, I still have trouble growing hair anywhere on my body.

Here is what I hoped it looked like

And in my mind, this is what I assumed that I always looked like:

Anyway, mission accomplished - it bugged the shit out of my wife. So, Biggest Loser Bob aside, I had a pretty good brick workout this morning. I started out a bit late on the bike going 11 miles. I am still going to do a 16-17 mile run tomorrow, but wanted to get out there and keep my legs loose. I always feel a bit flat at first if I don't run from Thursday to Sunday.

I was originally just going to do the bike, but I decided to turn it into an official brick (bike/run) workout - including the fast transition. The main purpose of turning this into a brick workout was to break in a new pair of shoes! I recently won a pair of Brooks on a twitter contest. I normally would have just dove head first, but they came a 1/2 size too small. Instead of creating a big deal out of it, I just decided to use them for my short runs. In short: they seemed a bit tighter than normal but nothing that seemed to be that big of a deal. I cranked away the 2 miles in 15:20.

I could see how you would want to practice these ahead of time to get used to them. The first quarter mile of the run was tough - even after only 11 miles or so.

good job on the brick - i've been trying to make an effort at going for at least one mile after my rides. definitely getting more accustomed to jellyleg syndrome!

Good effort, lookin' good, you're almost there... you can do it...

Sorry about the beard. I feel your pain as a fellow facial-hair-back-of-the-packer.

Like the running Penguin says, "something about courage to try.."

Your poor wife. Your poor, poor wife! Look at the bright side, at least you save lots of money not buying shaving cream and razors...

About the brick... Oh boy, am I not looking forward to those! We just watched a" duathlon" (it was teachers and students, a school function). One of the guys, a teacher my age (old, old, really, really old), got off his bike to run the last mile and he ran like he had just gotten off a horse. It was the funniest darn thing I have ever seen! Glad you survived : )

Bob ROCKS the stubble. Drool.

I'll just throw this out there...not sure what percentage of the female population I represent...but since no one has voiced this opinion yet, I'll say: I actually like stubble.

True it does irritate my own skin a little, but if a guy is typically clean shaven then doesn't shave for a couple days...I don't mind. The best comparison I could make is when guys like it when a girl puts her hair in a ponytail. Less of an effort for sure, but a different look that keeps things interesting.

Oh gosh. That second pic is totally cracking me up!

Which Brooks do you use? My husband is interested in the Adrenalines and I would love to hear a male's perspective on Brooks!

Nice job on the brick! I don't have the typical jelly legs, but my shins burn, so I'm going to try doing a run off the bike every time... see if it's just a conditioning thing!

Consider yourself lucky on the beard... low facial hair = zero chance of back hair!

Love the photoshopping - too funny!

And great job on trying the brick out - I am doing a duathlon on Sunday and haven't done a transition since last year's tri (gasp).

If you kept up the beard growing for 2 weeks you could totally rival Spencer Pratt's creepy flesh colored beard. (that's a good thing)
