"The miracle isn't that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start."
-John Bingham
“Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”
-Steve Prefontaine
So, this weekend believe in yourself. Have the courage to get out there and do something that, while uncomfortable, someone else does not have the courage, strength, or ability to do on their own.
In short, take the stairs when others choose to ride the escalator. You'll be a better person for it - Prefontaine promises.

you said it.
Well said. Have a good weekend!
so true. and stairs are always better. well, unless you have a bum foot and it hurts to walk.
The picture says it all.
Here's to next week being better.
I like this. So true. Have a great weekend!
I talk about my running all the time, and am grateful that my friends forgive me. I can't tell you the number of times I hear someone say "I could never do that". (I am sure you hear it also.) I always ask those people "Why did you try it?". Usually they look off into the distance, as if thinking, and say, "Well, no I haven't. So how do I know I can't?"
Of course most still never try, but a couple have actually gotten off their butts. :)
If the PRE says it, then I will do it. Hopefully it will get me through 11 miles tomorrow.
i hope all gets better for you. miss your sarcastic wit....
be well.
Hi Adam,
What a great post:) Thank you for always being so encouraging and positive! I hope that your weekend is better than your week!! Happy Friday Adam:)
Very nice!
Along those lines: "There is no comparison between that which is lost by not succeeding and that which is lost by not trying".
Have a great weekend, Adam:)
I have about a million quotes, quote queen here, that I pull up for a little inspiration now and then. But nothing like reading them from fellow bloggers. Have a great weekend...I'll be encouraged to not dread my long run this weekend!
Love that pic! Thanks for that and the great quotes :)
This post was hilarious. I should read all your posts when I'm on vicoden...
Great Foto... I'm just wondering why nobody is taking the glass elevator located next to the stairs.
So. Effing. True.
I needed a little of that this week. I've totally wallowed in self pity over the husband being gone, but this was the inspirational kick in the ass that I needed.
Thanks!
WTF. If this guy would read Jamoosh's blog, he would know to cut tangents in his route. Yes, take the stairs, but no need to be a masochist about it.
Sometimes I take the stairs and try to beat the people on the slow escalators.
Or in DC where we "Stand on the Right, Walk on the Left" in Metro Stations, I choose left for the loooooooong escalators. And walk up them briskly...just to show off ;)
Anyway, hope things get better. Remember the mug of beer is always "half full." And if it's half empty...its time to fill it up again ;)
Well said. Hope next week is better for you!
and I'm a little late, but congrats on the PR!
Great quotes and the picture says it all.
I'm not used to getting deep thoughts from here. What juice are you drinking?
