10 things

I’ve seen the 10 things that make you happy posts circling the blogosphere. I honestly can’t think of a better idea after such a dreary week. Valley of the Sun my ass.

I had starting thinking of my own list when I saw that Razz’s matched so many of what I would think my top 10 would be. Thankfully The Readhead Running tagged me and saved me from the shame cycle of posting it unprompted. Thanks!

(All pictures were taken by me / of me - I didn't even steal any!)

1. My wife and family: Between my traveling, my strange humor, and my many hours on the road, my wife puts up with a lot. Oh, did I mention I spend lots of time in front of the TV? What about that my clothes sometimes don't make it to the hamper? Gosh, I really need to zip it and thank my lucky stars that I have her!

2. Home: When I was sort of bummed about moving to Phoenix from Kansas City, my brother in law told me something that really rang true: "Turns out not where but who you're with that really matters, that really matters". As it were, it was a Dave Matthews Band Lyric - but that doesn't make it any less true.

3. Running: It seems that running has taken an increasingly larger part of my life as of late. The reason? I love it. I was asked by a very close friend a few days ago “what is it about running itself and/or running marathons specifically that you like so much?” I got busy and didn’t answer the question, but I think that the answer is probably something about how it makes me feel alive. I run, because I CAN.

4. A cool crisp fall day: (Stolen from Razz) The days that SMELL crisp. You can feel the air enter your lungs and somehow it energizes you. You can smell the leaves and see the yellows, reds, and browns of the trees. Fall is probably the #1 thing I miss about not being in Kansas City.

5. Blogs: Didn’t I just post about this? I love reading blogs, writing blogs, and I love finding new blogs. Leave a comment, I promise I’ll stop by.
6. A good wine: I don't talk much about my love for a good glass bottle of wine on this blog. But I probably spend more of my disposable income on wine than I do anything else (including running shoes!!)

7. Traveling I don’t think I could do the job I do if I didn’t like traveling. Now Thursday night having two flights canceled and a third delayed for 5 hours I could have done without, but overall I like seeing new places. After staying in hotels for 130+ nights last year, I’m glad this one made the list.

8. Instant Messenger: Unfortunately, the reality is that if I have you on IM, I stay in MUCH better contact with you than if I don't have you on IM. lol, brb, and omg are all part of my normal vocab. *sigh*
9. A good movie with friends: Preferably where something explodes, someone gets kicked in the junk, or a girls shows her boobs.

10. A good laugh: I laugh a lot. Sometimes at inappropriate times. "You just got kicked in the face? Could have been in the nuts too! har har har har".

Being a little late to the game, I'm sure that most have seen these. If you haven't been tagged, consider yourself tagged and crank out 10 happy moments of your own!

The fall was the #1 thing I missed when I lived in Phoenix. Any time I went back to Nebraska, I realized how much more color it had than the Valley.

Wine? Really? Didn't you mean "whine?"

I love this list! I agree with you and Razz. Besides my family, fall is the one thing I truly miss about Utah. Here in Florida we don't even get that cool, crisp, smell. Bummer.

The list is a failure. There's no bacon on it. :)

Of course you could just add the phrase, "plus bacon" to everything and it would all make sense.

Plus I'm digging your fencing style....

Dude, I don't have to write a list now because you just wrote mine for me. Seriously. Down to the wine. Gotta hand it to you though...mine wouldn't have had the kickass visual aides.

Oh yeah, I'm with you on the wine thing. I buy cheap wine most of the time and still end up spending a fortune. Those boxes can get expensive :)

Hi Adam,
I was scrolling through my older posts and noticed that you have left me a few more comments! So you grew up on a farm too....and you road steers too!!! Did your steer have a name? I was not in 4H because we were just to far in the country and I am sure that my parents would of had an issue with trucking me all over the place. So, I have a question for you...Do you miss living in the country? Do you ever think about going back? When I was eighteen I got out of Dodge as fast as my feet would take me and just wanted to be a city girl and finally experience life! I do go back to visit my family but I don't know if I could really be happy living in the country again. Don't get me wrong I miss many things about the country like; peace, fresh air, dirt roads, my pasture, the animals, my mom's big gardens and yes, I even miss driving our tractors:) I just am curious how you feel about where and how you grew up. Have a great day Adam!
