2/21: 5 miles, 7:51 pace
2/22: 16 miles, 8:28 pace, 174 average heart rate
Saturday MP Run: 5 miles at marathon pace. I was able to keep the marathon pace even though it was pretty cold and I was running into a very stiff headwind. I will admit, this run was tough. I found that I am going to be in real trouble if there is a strong headwind during any of my races. My legs felt heavy and it seemed like I was always running uphill. But, I guess I was able to meet the pace - even if only for 5 miles.
Sunday Long Run: 16 miles at a target of 8:30 pace. This run went really well. Two things that I really liked about this run. First, my HR was 5 beats below the previous week. This is probably due to the lower speed, but that is OK. I finally was able to run this distance at the speed that I wanted to - pretty consistently too. Second, when I was done, I wasn't completely spent. In fact, I'll bet I had a few more miles in me. However, I did have a bit of a 'glitch'.... When I had 1/2 a mile left, my right ankle had some pains on the inside. I'm going to take it easy for a day or two and keep a very close eye on it so that it doesn't turn into anything serious.
35 miles this week! The mileage is really ramping up. I'll be at nearly 40 miles next week!
